Oh god I can’t even. Tonight I was just finishing my homework quietly and only with my string of lights on when my lovely roommate waves to me,”I think I’m going to bed soon” okay, so I continue to work in with my headphone while she had been blasting Sean Paul at max volume on her iPod. Another five minutes go by, dear god can I please just finish my Chinese vocab? “I’m going to bed” taking the hint this time I pack up my stuff and promptly exit to the hall. Before I’m out the door she says “you don’t have to go” haha ch’yeah right. So I’m out settled into the hardass carpet when a nice guy from my club team comes around to talk about Chinese. This is when surprise surprise she come out and then draws all the Ra’s and plunks down right where I’m studying. Ughhj fuck is it possible to room in the library? After not taking many a hint from me that I needed to finish, the guy asks what my flashlight is for. I say it was for when I was going to bed because she was asleep five mins ago. “ohhh well you can go back in there now” hmm yea I can see that, but no fucking way. I’m not getting kicked out of my room twice in one night. Urgh help?? What do I do with her?

I love Asia. I love Asian things, I don’t know why I just do. But I wasn’t sold on Noh plays in my World Lit class. It’s so different from every form of performance I’ve ever been exposed to, Not only is it strict and often the same plot but in order to understand most of the plays you have to be acquainted with works like Heike, Genji and Monk tales. 

After we finished said works in class, we chipped away at Noh. Reading Noh is completely different from performance Noh. In reading you can dissect and figure out which reference you’re dealing with, like a big jigsaw. The performance is tricky though. If explained its easy to see why the characters move with such precision. Every step, both heels together, to turn only one foot can rotate. The figures glide because more often then not they are creating a world of vengeful spirits and mourning women ghosts.

Bringing it back down, here I am on a perfectly snowy vacation day ensnared by Noh and watching the performance pieces to the plays I’m reading now. I can just see I’m three cats away from becoming a crazy old grannie who knits and reads all day long.
